From the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean to modern gourmet tables, red wine has been much more than just a beverage. Steeped in history, culture, and tradition, it is also valued today for its health benefits, provided it is consumed in moderation.

The earliest traces of wine date back more than 6,000 years, in regions that today correspond to Georgia, Iran, and Armenia. However, it was the Greeks and Romans who incorporated it into their daily diet and attributed medicinal properties to it. Hippocrates, considered the father of medicine, already used it to treat various ailments.

In modern times, numerous scientific studies have confirmed that red wine contains compounds that can benefit the body. One of the most notable is resveratrol, an antioxidant found in the skin of red grapes, which helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by protecting the arteries and improving blood circulation.

Furthermore, red wine has been shown to help raise levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL) and has anti-inflammatory effects. It also contains polyphenols that help combat cellular aging, and some studies suggest it may play a role in preventing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

However, experts agree that the key is moderation: one drink a day for women and up to two for men is recommended by various health organizations.

Red wine, then, is a clear example of how an age-old tradition can find a place in today’s healthy lifestyle. More than a trend, it’s a legacy that unites pleasure, culture, and well-being.

So if you like red wine, you have another reason to enjoy it. Not only are you following an age-old tradition, you’re also taking care of your health… in style.
